Making furniture is a useful counterbalance to abstract technical work. Material dimensions, joinery, tolerances, assembly order, and finish all force decisions to become physical.

Projects include custom furniture, storage, lighting details, and practical improvements around the house. I document the design intent, constraints, build sequence, mistakes, and changes I would make next time.

Approach

  1. Define how the object will be used and what must fit around it.
  2. Reduce the design to a small number of repeatable dimensions.
  3. Plan joinery and assembly before cutting material.
  4. Prototype uncertain details at low cost.
  5. Design for repair, adjustment, and future changes.
